Even the prongs on this stud carry stones. A round moissanite sits on top in four prongs, and each prong is lined with tiny stones along its outer face, from the tip back toward your ear. Behind the big stone, the basket that holds it is wrapped in two bands of small stones with an open slot between them.

Where the detail lives

On a plain solitaire stud, the basket under the stone is bare metal that nobody thinks about. Here it carries most of the detail. Both bands circle the setting, the iced prongs cross over them, and together they turn the sides of the stud into a small cage of light. From the front, it passes for a classic four-prong solitaire, and the extra stones sit along the setting behind it.

Stones on the prongs also blur the line where the setting ends and the stone begins. On a plain four-prong stud, four bare metal prongs run down the stone's sides. This stud lines the length of each prong with sparkle, so the edge of the center stone runs straight into the glitter of the setting around it.

Look closely at where each prong bends over the center stone. That tip stays plain metal, and the stones begin just behind it, so nothing decorative sits between the prong and the moissanite it holds. A close-up held in tweezers shows each prong running back along the setting like a rail.

Four sizes, three plating colors

Four sizes are offered, from 5MM up to 9MM. Every size comes in three plating colors, white, rose and yellow gold, all on a sterling silver base. Going up a size makes the center stone bigger and gives the basket more room around it, so the iced bands grow along with the stone. Why is there a gap between the two bands? The open slot keeps the basket from becoming one solid wall of stones, so each band shows up as its own line of sparkle when light hits the side.
